When we came together to form the coop, one of our main goals was to take the format of the music venue and expand it beyond our brick and mortar location. We discussed at length the idea of being able to provide bands with documentation of their performances with us and generate new audience members through our online presence. After we received the news that we were being awarded the Toolbox Grant we saw an opportunity to jump start this valuable addition to what we can offer our performers and our audience.
Taking inspiration from the classic MTV Unplugged, Boiler Room, and Tiny Desk Series, we will be documenting 4 artists and 4 support acts using live sound and video recording.
It’s important to note that one of the aspects of Opolis’ tenure we’ve been working to change is the lack of documentation around it. It is challenging to capture every moment in a living and constantly changing organism that is a music venue, but this series will create a snapshot of contemporary musicians and enable them to grow their audience from our platform.
Admission will be limited to 40 people as this will be an intimate evening intended to give the artist our full attention and provide them with the best atmosphere to produce great sound and video in front of a live audience. We expect to capture the sound of the room and this will be an opportunity for our patrons to be part of Norman music history, capturing your claps, glass clinks, on top of our incredible artists who will be entertaining for the evening
Tickets for our first session will be $15 and goes directly to supporting the continued production of this series. It requires lots of set up and quality control to get right as we want to be able to paint our performers in the best light and give them the opportunity to grow their careers through our position in the music scene. Tickets will be available online and at the door if online tickets do not sell out.
You can also make direct contributions to this series by following this link. You can set up a one time or recurring sponsorship and indicate the funds to go to Opolis Sessions. Your name will appear in the credits of each session produced following your contribution!
Artists will receive approval of the final production once the event concludes and will be released through our online platforms and available for use by the artist in their future endeavors!
