An Interview with Baileyboy

Bailey Boy is a band on the rise from Norman, OK that transmutes alternative rock with midwestern discontent into invigorating sounds that grip the emotions and encourages listeners to let it out. This blog features their single “Daddy Issues” released June 2024 and episode 9 of a live performance with Spark and Plug from 2023.

How long have you been writing music? What got you started?

I’ve been writing music since I was a kid, but I started playing guitar and writing full songs when I was 13 after years of loving music.

Who are the members of the band and what do they play?

Bailey on vocals, CJ Rodgers on Guitar, Tim Stieg on Bass, and Tyler Romine on Drums.

How long have you all played together?

Almost two years!

How can people find you?

Instagram - TikTok - Bandcamp - Spotify

Can you share the story behind the formation of your band?

I started working with CJ as my producer near the end of 2022, and borrowed his existing band for a show. It went so well that we decided to become a permanent project!

What are you listening to lately?

Everyone in the band listens to different things, but lately I’ve been loving Scene Queen and Better Lovers, and of course watching Chappell Roan finally blow up.

What insight or advice would you share to younger artists trying to establish themselves in music?

Focus on the music itself. Make your connections and goals based around what motivates you to keep creating, and surround yourself with people that help foster that focus in you and themselves.

Can you share your first impression of the Opolis or an experience you had here that you would like to share?

Hearing that the opolis was becoming the Co-Opolis was exciting! The music scene in Norman is a fairly unique and has such a rich community, and seeing a venue become a part of that community in a deeper way is very cool.

Is there anything you want people to know about supporting musicians?

There are so many ways to support local musicians and art in general depending on how much you can give— whether it’s donating or tipping at shows, buying merch, or watching and streaming their work online. It’s all so valuable and the landscape is constantly changing on what helps most so feel free to ask your favorite artists what they need from you.

This is the last session in the Opolis Session series for this year. Tickets are available at the door on July 6th at 8PM!
